Europe’s drone challenge

This Euronews/Boarding pass episode looks at “The Drone Challenge” posed to European ATM by a rapidly-expanding industry estimated to be worth, in Europe alone, €15 billion by 2025, and generating 150,000 new jobs by 2050.

Our expert on Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), Mike Lissone, says: “the biggest challenge we are facing is on the one hand a very conservative aviation community which takes many years to make changes to keep everything safe; and on the other, a very innovative industry that doesn’t want to wait 5-7 years but rather wants to implement things now”.

Regulations which vary from country to country need to be harmonised across Europe to keep scheduled passenger flights and drones operating safely, and without unnecessary complications. More information about RPAS is available at
