First BVLOS flight in the Netherlands

The Delftacopter team conducted the first successful drone flight Beyond Visual Line Of Sight (BVLOS) in the Netherlands. Their hybrid biplane Delftacopter drone flew from the Dutch mainland to the island of Schiermonnikoog. Flying BVLOS can extend the application of drones significantly to the deployment of drones for eg medical deliveries, agriculture and inspections of infrastructure. Therefore, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Province of Drenthe, the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB, Groningen university hospital ambulance service, TU Delft MAVLab and Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) are conducting a BVLOS experiment to build experience and to investigate how rules and regulations could be adjusted.

The coming months, the Delftacopter team will prepare for the next UAV Medical Express Challenge in Australia where they will conduct a long-distance medical delivery.
